Statement of Solidarity

As educators, we cannot remain silent! The Curriculum and Pedagogy Group expresses its deepest condolences to the Floyd family and the countless others who have been abused, violated, and killed at the hands of the U.S.’s unjust legal system. We must address the structural inequality that perpetuates the impoverishment and political marginalization of Black, Brown, and Indigenous peoples. This inequity at its core is violent and unacceptable.

We understand that our anti-racism work must be based on solidarity, not altruism. As educators, we must condemn inequity and pledge to transform our outrage and grief into a recommitment to developing coalitions and combat anti-Blackness. As a group, we are committed to interrogating these inequities and pledge to work towards dismantling privilege, decolonizing power structures, and investing in movements for racialized peoples with humility, love, and solidarity.

In this time, we stand and support the Black Lives Matter movement as leading the path to follow.
