Hybrid Conference: October 20 - 23, 2021

CONFERENCE THEME: Cartographies of the (Sur)Real: Curriculum and Pedagogy in These Times

The Curriculum and Pedagogy (C&P) Group hosts an annual conference gathering for individuals seeking academic enrichment
and professional engagement with others who are likewise committed to educational empowerment and social change. Due to the
ongoing pandemic, we will hold an online/virtual conference in 2021.

To register and attend the conference, fully complete the registration form and make the necessary payment in the link below.

Our annual conference opens spaces to advance traditions of critical inquiry in education through dialogue and action. We welcome attendees ranging from early childhood educators through higher education instructors – that includes practicing K-12 teachers, librarians, administrators, graduate students, professors, or independent scholars as well as artists, and educators from community groups and organizations.

In addition to folk working in schools and/or academia, we welcome proposals from artists and creative submissions.

We invite proposals that fit our conference and organizational focus, or extend our field of vision, in ways we have not yet considered or anticipated.

We seek proposals that honor the conference theme while also supporting proposals from a broad array of criticalities that are
part of curriculum studies and educational foundations’ past and future.

The proposal submission and acceptance process is that all proposals are to undergo blind peer review.

Deadline to submit a proposal: July 16, 2021

Direct any questions about the proposal process to the Program Committee at chairofcandp@gmail.com. Letters of acceptance will be emailed to presenters no later than August 13, 2021.

Statement of Solidarity

As educators, we cannot remain silent! The Curriculum and Pedagogy Group expresses its deepest condolences to the Floyd family and the countless others who have been abused, violated, and killed at the hands of the U.S.’s unjust legal system. We must address the structural inequality that perpetuates the impoverishment and political marginalization of Black, Brown, and Indigenous peoples. This inequity at its core is violent and unacceptable.

We understand that our anti-racism work must be based on solidarity, not altruism. As educators, we must condemn inequity and pledge to transform our outrage and grief into a recommitment to developing coalitions and combat anti-Blackness. As a group, we are committed to interrogating these inequities and pledge to work towards dismantling privilege, decolonizing power structures, and investing in movements for racialized peoples with humility, love, and solidarity.

In this time, we stand and support the Black Lives Matter movement as leading the path to follow.

Cartographies of the (Sur) Real: Curriculum and Pedagogy in These Times

As we continue to accommodate the (sur)real conditions we find ourselves in, we welcome this opportunity to continue with our
curricular thought, pedagogical innovations, and activism. We conceptualize the (sur)real as an analytic that assists in reading and
interpreting social reality within the historical conjuncture in which we live.
